It will be hard to miss SAS® Curriculum Pathways® winner of this year’s Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) 2008 CODiE Award for Best K-12 Instructional Solution, at Virtual School Symposium 2008 in Phoenix. Attendees will hear from customers and staff how the online resource for students and teachers in high schools, community colleges, home settings and, of course, virtual schools empowers virtual learning and instruction.
Florida Virtual School, the country’s first statewide Internet-based public high school, will present one session on how SAS Curriculum Pathways InterActivities raise student achievement and another titled Bridging the Learning Gap with Digital Resources for English Courses. Florida Virtual School has used SAS Curriculum Pathways since 2003.
“SAS Curriculum Pathways perfectly complements the online instructional resources of a virtual school,” said Julie E. Young, President of Florida Virtual School. “It provides teachers with engaging lessons, InterActivities, online tools and simulations in all core disciplines and Spanish. It promotes critical thinking skills while making online courses relevant and fun. And it allows students to learn when and where it is most convenient for them.”
Michigan Virtual School will host a breakout session on preparing learners for 21st-century jobs with SAS Curriculum Pathways. Bruce Friend, online learning expert and Director of SAS Curriculum Pathways, will host sessions on how to start an online learning program and online tutoring.
Primarily for students in grades 8-12, SAS Curriculum Pathways provides content in the core disciplines of English, mathematics, social studies, science and Spanish. Aligned with state and national standards, its more than 200 InterActivities and 855 ready-to-use lessons apply technology-rich instruction to engage higher-order thinking skills.
Designed for a wide range of classroom environments, technology capabilities and learning styles, SAS Curriculum Pathways can be used flexibly – in a one-computer classroom, virtual school, in small groups or in 1-to-1 computing initiatives.
Teachers in the classroom or at home can select and integrate resources that facilitate differentiated instruction and develop critical-thinking skills. Integrating rigorous content with skillful instructional design prepares students for college-level learning, hones 21st-century skills, and assists in meeting achievement and accountability criteria.
Virtual School Symposium 2008, from the North American Council for Online Learning (NACOL), brings together more than 800 representatives from national, state, district, private and other virtual school programs to attend the industry’s leading event in K-12 online learning.
